Created a tissue fusion device that used heat to perform an ex vivo anastomosis surgery. The device used direct feedback from embedded thermocouples to control a PID system in LabVIEW. The TFD performed 100 successful “welds” in porcine tissue, proving that different variations of temperature and pressure could be used as an alternative to sutures or staples.
